Best of 2016

2016 was not a good year for celebrities or U.S. democracy. I’m not going to beat a dead horse about that one. The year 2016 was, however, a pretty productive year for me. I’ll get to my favorite sewing projects of the last year in a bit.

It finally happened: A matching outfit for Cora and me. 🐕 👩🏻 👚 👚 I used the leftover @girlcharlee French terry knit from my #lindensweatshirt to copy a Reddy-brand sweater we bought awhile back for Cora. It fits great but sadly she despises wearing clothes, maybe you can tell from the pics? 😂 But when it’s single digits girl’s gotta have an extra layer. 🥶 #isew #sewingfordogs #dogsweater #handmade #muttsofinstagram #ilovemydog
A super quick @grainlinestudio Linden Sweatshirt was necessary after finishing a mini quilt! I realized I hadn’t made one of these since I got my serger, which was over three years ago I think?? This came together in an afternoon 🙌🏻 I cut a size 8 and added 2.5” length to the body and 1.5” to the sleeves (I’m 6ft tall with a long torso for reference). I bought this French terry tie dye knit from @girlcharlee with every intention of making some lounge pants or joggers, but it screamed “SWEATSHIRT” when i opened the package so here we are. I finished the neckline with some cream ribbing from my stash and cut the sleeve and hem bands on the opposite grain for some visual interest. #sewing #isewmyownclothes #isew #sewingknits #grainlinelinden #grainlinestudio #lindensweatshirt #tiedye #sewcialists #loungewear #sewingtall
Mini quilt complete! I have so much respect for quilters now that I’m dipping my toes in. Yes, it’s a “mini” quilt, but it still takes.... a long time! So many seams! So much pressing! But I love how this scrap-busting project turned out. (Literally everything was from my stash, woot woot!) I used the Simply Solid pinwheel tutorial from allpeoplequilt.com — clearly I didn’t stick simply to solids. 😇
FREE patterns that fit are such a joy! Got around to sewing the Monroe Turtleneck from @tessutifabrics — this one comes in three different sizes. I made size 2 and added an inch of length at the lengthen line. As you can see this knit T-shirt fabric is practically sheer so I’m calling this a very wearable house muslin/layering piece. I love the drape i get with this fabric but would love to try it in a more stable knit.
